    Hi Guys,

Found this forum, looks very good! 8)

Too start off then, I got my hands on a Cisco PIX 501 Firewall the otherday and would like to install it in my small network.

At present I have a Netgear FVS114 firewall but I want to replace this with the Cisco.

I have a router which is in modem mode which is a Netgear DG834N ADSL2+, I now want to put the Cisco behind this, I've managed to get onto the PDM GUI and set a IP up of 192.168.1.190 and the Netgear DG834N ADSL2+ is 192.168.0.1.

I cant seem to get the PIX working at all!

    Hi

If your Netgear DG834N is has the gateway IP of 192.168.0.1 and I assume the default subnet of 255.255.255.0 is still set, the pix with an IP of 192.168.1.190 is on technically another network.

You will need to change the IP on the pix to be on the same network address as the Netgear i.e. 192.168.0.190/24 (/24=255.255.255.0).

    maybe this way:
    log on via console
    log in
    ip address inside 192.168.0.190 255.255.255.0
ip address outside 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0 (your gateway address)

the above is a guess as i have not really used pix, failing that follow the below link:
    cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/pix/pix63/quick/guide/63_501qk.html

    hope that helps
