To settle an argument, can someone tell me the difference between the
CCNA exam and the recert-CCNA exam. I know the initial CCNA exam is to
become a CCNA and the recertification exam is to recertify after ones
CCNA has expired. But I want to know is there a difference in test
format material, is the recert test more difficult because now Cisco
expects you to have more experience.

To recertify you just take the latest CCNA exam or a 642 CCNP exam

As long as your CCNA hasn't expired you can take a 642 CCNP exam to
recertify - if your CCNA has expired you have to take the latest CCNA exam.
