can't get 4.7 gb DVD+R

    I have a Sony dxr830U which I want to use as a dvr backup of my hard drives. I am using Sony DVD+R disks and the program only lists the disk as 684MB not the 4.7 that the disk says.

    The disk recorder says it is Double Layer, Dual Layer but I can't get a data disk more than 684mb. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks I sort of a newbie to this.
