Any improvement on the Epson Stylus 740 printer?

I have a Epson Stylus 740 printer which was good at printing
photographic photos. It must have been about 3 years since I brought
this printer so I'm wondering if there was been any improvement on the
Epson photo printers? Has the quality of the printing improved?

I like the idea of having separate ink tanks for different colours.
Often when printing photos of people I run out of red ink in the tri
ink cartridge and it seems wasteful to replace the ink tri cartridge
when the other inks are not dry.

    Regards Brian

The 740 is a 4 color printer, all of the current "Stylus Photo" models produce
more realistic photo-quality as they use 6 or 7 inks.
Epson 2200 or 960, or one of the Canon models.
