I think this bug is fairly well known but I was wondering if anything is
    being done about it......

Basically, after using 1.4 for a period of time, available memory drops to
zero (from about 78) and windows begin to draw incorrectly - closing mozilla
immediately frees up memory back to 80+ I've read giant threads on this
issue at mozilla.org but nothing seems to be happening regarding it - wait
    till 1.5???

When does that happen ? during surfing or with a Mail&Newsgroup window
    open ?
If the latter, you should do some "Compress folders" (that do not
compress anything, but purges the deleted mails).

During surfing, just using mozilla for about an hour or two will cause the
problem - seems there is a bug with mozilla not releasing memory it no
    longer needs, or some such.

It's this bug, "GDI Resources are used until the UI/website displays
    faultily"
    http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=204374

According to the 1.5RC1 release notes, "Mozilla should no longer cause
GDI problems on Windows". So try installing 1.5 RC1. Or wait for 1.5,
which should be out within a week. In versions where it's not fixed,
try using the workaround listed in comment 147 of the bug report.

  5. Mozilla.org has been promising a 1.4.1 release that will fix this "soon"
for weeks now. I think something else got added in as a blocker to the
release that has hung it up. Check mozilla.org for progress on it.

Just download version 1.5. It's available now, and it
    corrects that problem.

  8. True, 1.5 final is not out, but 1.5 RC1 is, and behaving quite nicely
    for me.
