After Win98SE Re-Install and Update on MS Site, my external USB drive is flashing continually ...

    After Win98SE Re-Install and Update on MS Site this week, my external
    USB drive is flashing continually, apparently something is constantly
    searching the drive. This never happend before.

    I am also unable to disconnect the drive, getting a message like "You
    cannot disconnect the drive at this time."

    Does anyone know what this is all about?
