    Hi,

I'm a newbie to setting up ADSL modems.

    I've purchased a 3COM ADSL modem/firewall/router.

The modem is currently connected to the PC on one of the modem's
4 LAN ports (modem has registered the connection - green LED light).

The modem is not yet connected to the internet (i.e. no plug in the
RJ11 socket). Does this need to be connected for me to "see" the
modem's internal web server (defaults to 192.168.1.1)?

(note: In case you're wondering, I don't have access to an active
ADSL connection - I'm on cable, setting this up for a friend).

    Thanks,
    D

No it doesn't need to be connected to the internet.

    Thanks dude.

I've sussed it now. Just had to renew the IP leases on my Windoze box.
