3d Games crash on XP

  1. I was walking down the street, minding my own business, when on Sat,
Try downloading the latest video card driver from ATI. Sometimes a
slight timing problem between the chipset and the video card will
cause problems, so if you it might be a good idea to download the
latest chipset drivers, also. Since you are using an AMD and most use
the VIA chipset, you can download the latest Hyperion drivers at
www.viaarena.com What version of DirectX are you using? I believe the
9700 supports 9.0b, so make sure you're running that. If you don't
know, go to Start/Run and type in dxdiag and it will give you all the
    information you need.

I did a clean install and patched everything up:

    AMD XP2600
    Radeon 9700 Pro
    Audigy 2
    512 DDR 3200 RAM
    XP home

Remember, this is the exact same system I have always used, that just now
happens to run XP. Anyway, it keeps crashing on my 3D games, even fully
XP-compatible ones like Farcry, Unreal 2 and Painkiller. Is there something
special I have to do to get these 3D things running? The PC is rock solid
when asked to do anything else...

    Thanks all

   (
