100MB network speed vs reading data off a DVD

    I'm taking some stuff to someone's house and am wondering whether to take it
    on a laptop and then transfer it cross-over cable stylee or just read it all
    off DVD's. Does anyone know which would be quickest?

    Theoretical transfer rate of a 1X DVD is 11Mbps so anything over a 10X
    (giving a theoretical transfer rate of 110Mbps) will be faster than a
    network connection. Also consider that the network is unlikely to run at
    the full 100mb and trying to connect with a crossover cable doesn't always
    work first time.

    DVDs will probably be somewhat quicker, but assuming you get the network
    running quickly you can just walk away and leave the machines to it if you
    do it that way.
