Xtra only seems to update their DNS once a day

Discussion in 'NZ Computing' started by Lawrence D'Oliveiro, May 8, 2009.

  1. Was with a client today, updating some domain names registered at various
places. He got into his Register4Less page, did a few changes, and within
minutes he was seeing the right website through one domain. Told him he was
    lucky--TTL propagation and all that...

Then to Xtra for a .nz domain, did similar updates, and got a message saying
it would take 24 hours for the changes to be processed.

Checked alien and terminator directly with the host command, and sure
enough, the SOA record was still showing a serial number from a few days
ago. So this is not time for the changes to propagate, it really is time for
Xtra themselves to getting around to updating their configurations.

Xtra only flush their cache once per day around 6pm.
At least that was the case when I was setting up domain names/hosting way
    back then
