xp64 printer install problem, services, print spool and RPC proble

Discussion in 'Windows 64bit' started by Urik of Vancouver, Nov 24, 2008.

  1. Can't install 64 bit Dell lazer printer. Error message; printer spool not
activated, or RPC not running. Turn both on, but while trying to install,
printer spool automatically turns off. Wizard will not work due to these
    issues. any ideas?

  2. there is a print driver on the machine that is causing the spooler service
    to fail.

If you attempted to install this Dell printer previously get the uninstall
program from Dell for this device and remove the driver.

Once it is remove run the add printer wizard a create a fake printer that
uses driver form the OS on LPT1:

No that you have the spooler service running try the Dell install again. If
they have a driver that you don't have to run setup.exe stick with that one.
