My power supply recently died, I found out after coming home from work one
night to find my PC shut down. I replaced ps with another one, went from a
    400 watt switching supply to a 350 non-switching supply.

I then discovered my PC wouldnt go into windows, kept getting message about
improper shutdown, etc etc and the choices of safe mode, last known config,
etc, but none of them did the trick.

Hard drive placed in a working PC to gain access. Error checking ran on it.
And, backed up all the data I needed to keep onto CDs. Put back HD in
original PC, got into windows downloaded Maxtor's drive checking program,
ran this from a floppy, it found some bad sectors, fixed them. Got no error
codes just the choice to fix. If I had got error codes could of rma'd for a
    new drive.

Decided to reinstall XP by having it remove the current partition, create a
new one and install XP, I should tell you XP Pro version.

To reduce stress on current PS I have disabled use of a DVD drive, and 2
cooling fans. I keep a home based box fan aimed at my PC now, with the case
open. I have one cooling fan working, and the one on the AMD chip.

I have downloaded and installed all the critical updates from MS available
for my PC. I have ZA pro, Office 2003, 2 instant messaging programs, some
dvd burning tools, an html editor, spybot, adaware, etc programs installed,
yes and an antivurs program too.

I am now getting: instruction at 0x24a0128d referenced memory at 0x00d26c88.
the memory could not be read, terminate the program. That was just an
example, but I am getting these types of message intermittently now, where I
    hadnt before.

I need some help to solve whatever is happening!

    I have:

Your power supply is too small for the load.
Use this Power Supply Wattage Calculator:
