XP 64 and Vista

  1. No. XP Pro x64 is the 64 bit version of XP that was released at the end of
April. Vista is a new operating system due out next year and comes in both
    32 and 64bit editions.

  2. Well, in terms of the code base they are, but feature wise, both are
different. Vista is a work in progress and will continue change over the
life of the beta, which won't end until late 2006. Another thing that makes
Vista x64 different from XP Pro x64 is, its buggy.

    Hi, Pete.

You've been hearing about the new version of Windows, codenamed Longhorn,
for a couple of years. Microsoft just last week rolled out the first Beta
version of Longhorn - and announced that the permanent name for the client
    version is Microsoft Windows Vista.

In other words, Vista is what we've all been calling Longhorn. It's the
next generation after WinXP. WinXP debuted in 32 bits back in 2001; the
64-bit version arrived this summer. Vista will hopefully go on sale in time
    for Christmas 2006.

Just to keep things confusing, there are both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of
    the Vista Beta, too.
