Does anyone know how the X64 preview version terminates when it expires?
Does it give you any warning?

  2. You mean the trial version ? No warning. Run->winver, and you're done.

  3. If you are talking about the RC1 or RC2 previews, you are no longer entitled
to use them since March 31, 2005, official x64 RTM date.

  4. If it is like the Beta version, then there was no warning. YOu can boot
up one day and then the next you can't as you get a message trial expired,
please purchase commmercial version, and then you can't log on. Maybe to
go to the real version it will be as easy as punching in a code without
having to reinstall and lose all your files, I don't know.

  6. Hello Danielle,
Sure there should be warning when it's getting close to expiring.
I don't recall if there are warning at logon or not but the event logs
should contain noifications that tell you how many days are remaining when
you get close to the end.
There is more than one timer so the behavior can be different depending on
    which period was expired.
See this article for the correct behavior after expiration:
818025 Windows 2003 Server evaluation copy expiration behavior

  7. Since you are from MSFT, maybe you can tell me if I install the new trial
xp64 over my expired beta RC2 from within safe mode`, will my files remain
saved? If not, is there a way to get my cdrom to burn my files for backup
    using the
"send to e:"? So far I've had no luck as it says no writable cd and have
had to resort to floppies. Also, I'll note, no warning came up in RC2 stating
    it was to expire.

  8. Hello Tony,
The files should not be deleted if you upgrade to a released version but it
is always safer and recommended to back them up first.

I answered this in your first post asking about writing in Safe Mode and
    gave you something to try.

    Hello Tony,
You can try starting the IMAPI service.
    Right-Click My Computer
    Choose Manage
    Choose Services and Applications
Choose IMAPI CD Burning Com Service
Try the Start button, by default it's off in Safe Mode, but it doesn't show
    any dependancies.
    Thanks,
