    Hi,
I just got my hands on a 2950 and I suspect something is wrong with it. The
mode switch doesn't seem to do anything, and it fails the POST during
boot-up. Can this possibly be caused by a config entry/bad config/corrupted
config or some other sofware problem, or am I looking at a hardware issue.

I'm concerned both about the "The number of asics expected were 1, PCI bus
scan found -1" and the "Ethernet Controller Test failed" statements. I've
included the boot-up output below. I have to notify the seller quickly, so
I would appreciate any ideas. I know next to nothing about these switches,
but I have access to a new IOS image if I need one.

    Otto,
POST Failures almost always signal a hardware problem. Contact
Cisco TAC with that output and they will be able to check whether this
might be a software bug or exception, but it looks like a hardware
failure which you can only really rectify safely and within
contract/warranty by replacing through Cisco or your Cisco reseller.

    Good Luck
