WMP 64 bits on Vista x64

Discussion in 'Windows 64bit' started by =?Utf-8?B?Q2FybG9z?=, Sep 23, 2006.

  1. Default WMP is the 32 bit version in Vista x64.
There are no offical 64 bit decoders for some audio/video compression
formats so, the 32-bit version of WMP is the logical (default) choice.
If you want to play an XViD coded video with Dolby AC3 audio, you will get
    an error on WMP64.
I managed to modify the inf file of the x64 XViD decoder that was sometime
ago in PlanetAMD64 and got it to install in Vista x64.
There was also an AC3 x64 decoder hanging around so I also gave it a try.
Result: I can play those videos with WMP64.
Some x64 subtitling utility is the only piece missing.

  2. An added bonus is that by adding those codecs, Windows DVD Maker (a 64-bit
app) now recognizes the XViD encoded video.
