A friend of mine talked me into installing a bootlegged version of
Windows XP Pro. Now I can't install other Microsoft programs because
I don't have the latest Service Packs on my computer. And I can't
install Sevice Packs because it always says that I have an invalid KEY
number on my computer. This FRIEND then told me to use what he calls
a Keygen program to generate a key. It generated a key but the
Service Pack downloads STILL say it's invalid. I just want to
uninstall this bootlegged version of XP (WITHOUT having to completely
start over - what a pain). If anyone can help me with this I promise
to be a good boy and never, EVER use boolegged software again.
    Thanks.

Thievery has it's consequences. I hope you're not as easily talked into
    other illegal activity.

Save all your personal files onto floppy discs. Start again, tea leaf.

Well who's blank cd was it? If it was yours' consider it bought and paid
for. Just use your friend's serial number or ask around for one. Remember
sp2 is coming out this month so get a serial that works with it. Frankly i
wouldn't install any of the patches except the one for unmountable boot
volume using the ntfs file system. I did install it and uninstalled that one
anyways as the only time my computer went tits up was when i was copying two
dozen dvds when i got the blue screen. I put it down to using clever cache
pro as the computer was running too fast. Even if everything is out of order
it's still faster as i perceive time in milliseconds and can perceive time
    in nanoseconds.

It is a very good idea to backup your important files to CD-R or a
spare hard drive or similar before doing any major changes, including
following my or anyone else's advice. But you are IN LUCK. You DON'T
have to completely start over. This will screw up some things, but
they should be pretty minor. MAKE a BACKUP copy of MY DOCUMENTS to a
new directory, and anything on your desktop, and you might want to
copy your start menu directory to remind you what had been installed.
Write down your login information about how to connect to the
internet. You will be able to get SP1 and SP2 and be compatible with
everything. Get a boxed version of Windows XP Pro FULL, if you don't
have an official WinME or Win2000 disk, or get the upgrade version if
you do. XP Home will not help, because you can't do a downgrade from
Pro to Home! Its a few hundred, but that's the price you pay- if you
had been good in the first place you could have bought XP Home for
half. Boot off the CD in the box, do a repair install, and put in
your new legitimate key when it asks. If it doesn't ask, use any of
the many web pages online to change your product key to the legit one.
    Then, update away.
