I recently received and accepted some updates from Microsoft for my XP pro
and now windows shuts down after a authorization check( which I obviously
did not pass). Does anyone know the update number itself or know of a place
to check what the updates do?

I don't need the lecture about burnt copies of O/S's.
    Thanks in advance

Where did you get these updates, and what exactly is the error message?

Sounds like they downloaded an email that came to them for updates and
probably had a virus. They one that shuts Windows down as soon as it is
    started.
