Windows Server Backup and FilesNotToBackup

Discussion in 'Microsoft Certification' started by Ondrej Sevecek, Apr 8, 2009.

  1. Hello,

there is the registry key called FilesNotToBackup in
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore. This key should contain
list of files that are not backed up.

There is an entry for \pagefile.sys

Then I assume tha pagefile.sys will not be contained in the resultant .VHD
file. But when I tried it, the pagefile.sys from system volume is actually
in the backup file. I checked by mounting the file.

Also when I try to recover the pagefile.sys by Windows Server Backup, the
file is in the list of recoverable files. It is also possible to mark the
file for recovery to a different location. But then a weird thing comes, the
recovery succeeds, but the file is not recovered acutally.

    What happend?
