when i try and send a remote assistance invite to a friend, my computer
wants to use the old messenger(4.7) even though im logged in with live
    messenger (8.1 latest)

ive uninstalled messenger in add/rem programs/"windows components" and
uninstalled/reinstalled live messenger, but still no change.

ive tried all the settings in add/rem programs/set program access and
defaults for messenger but it still wants to use 4.7 version.

any ideas on what to try next?

    windows xp pro sp2
