Windows Explorer Not working

Discussion in 'NZ Computing' started by Neal Phillips, Mar 5, 2005.

  1. Hi All
    Win2k
"My Computer" no longer responds to a double left click. It just opens an
    icon in the task bar.
If I right click I still have access to 'properties', 'map network drives',
'search' etc but 'explore' does nothing.
    I can run "windows explorer".
I can log in as a different user and "my computer" works just fine.

A week or so back I was mucking around with registry settings for an
unrelated item & perhaps I accidentally changed a setting. I've scrolled
through obvious settings but can't see where this might be controlled from.
    Any thoughts?
    TIA
    Neal

There are so many possibilities. Can you remember at all where in the
registry you were mucking around? What you were trying to do? That
would help. Otherwise, I'd suggest you do a System Restore to a point
in time before you first noticed the problem.

It was the delay setting for dos printing:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    SYSTEM
    CurrentControlSet
    Control
    WOW
    LPT_Timeout

    Cheers

  4. Why not just restore it from the backup you made before
    you changed it!
You did back it up eh?

Ok, well, not much of a clue there. But for what it's worth, here's a
copy of the WOW registry key from my own machine. Since I never do
anything with 16-bit apps, I assume it includes the default settings.
You can compare this with what you have setting by setting, or else
save it as a .reg file and run to replace everything at once.
