Win 7 Appearance issues

Discussion in 'NZ Computing' started by Lindsay.Rollo@paradisedotnetdotnz, Mar 14, 2010.

  1. I'm setting up a laptop with Win 7 for someone with a serious
    sight impairment.

I've increased the text size for menus, etc, and the magnifier
will be set to open at the top of a 23 in screen on bootup.

1] The default icons are very wishy-washy and hard to see,
particularly those in the quick launch section of the task bar.
Similarly the default text in the Appearance > Personalise dialog is
light blkue and this is insufficient contract to be read easily, if at
    all.

Again, the contrastof the Explorer Icon and icons in the task bay
is poor and I need to achieve much higher contrast.

    Can anyone suggest a solution

2] By default, the labels on desktop icons have reduced legibility
by the addition of soft shadowing. Can the shadowing be turned off ?

  2. Impossible:

    Tks for reply.

    Yes I'd used a modified High-Contrast settings.

Tks for the 'Visula Effect' tips, which Ive used.

Combined with the magnified, the desktop is now about the best
that can be achieve and will allow the user to continue with his
    emails and read the newspaper.

Lindsay, I've copied your original post and sent it to my mate who works
in the user interface dept. at MS. You may possibly hear back from him.
    Can't guarantee it though :)
