WiFi connection dropping at night during automated backups

Home network: Linksys BFSR41 router with one PC, one NAS drive and a
Linksys WAP54G wireless access point connected by cables. Two other PCs
connect by WiFi through the WAP (4/5 or 5/5 connection strength bars).
I am running time-staggered incremental backups from the three PCs
every night (9pm, midnight, 3am). Most mornings, the two WiFi PCs
report the backup aborted at some time during the night because the NAS
device was no longer available, but the PC cabled into the router does
not have this problem on those nights - the backup from that PC
completes with no interruption. I have tried two different backup
programs and the problem persists. If I re-start an aborted backup
manually during the day, it will complete normally. Both LinkSys boxes
have latest firmware. What might be causing this?

Should add all PCs run Win XP. The two WiFi machines run XP Pro and the
    cabled PC runs XP Home.
