Why are MI5 wasting my Tax money, they should get their finger out and push
that B****** under a Bus, instead of just talking about doing it.

Now that you have had all the snappy comeback answers, I'll try to help you.

Usenet is an unmoderated series of forums with no "owner" or "moderator". So
there is nobody to enforce the rules. The spam is coming from idiots who
either enjoy trying to ruin any conversations around them or don't care that
they are completely off topic for that forum. Many of the more active
spammers cross post to many unrelated forums so that when someone on any of
the forums reply (telling them to go away) it gets posted to all the forums.
    Causing even more spam.

The best response to these spammers is to ignore them and hope they get
bored and go somewhere else. And I make it a point to NEVER do any business
with any company or individual that sends unsolicited and off topic ads.
Maybe if more of us did this the companies would learn that such spam will
    actually hurt their business. JMHO

rpd is an unmoderated group. I have subscribed to a couple of
moderated groups and that can also be a problem. If moderator gets
sick or disabled the list stops till he recovers or appoints a
    replacment.

To me this is the downside of the anonymity so many people want
online. So many folks are worried about the government spying on
their online traffic that we have sites dedicated to allowing posters
to be completely anonymous. So we are reaping the grain we sow with
those fears. One cannot clean up such folks 'cause no one knows who
    they are.

While this is probably true, I would like to point out that it
does *not* mean that most googlegroupers are spammers.

Many of us use Google Groups for meaningful, legitimate interaction
because we have no other reliable means of access to Usenet. It is
sad that misuse by a relatively very few people has generated such
a large amount of resentment towards GG.

What's actually generated the resentment is that Google refuses to do
    anything about it.

If anyone cares to do the same as I did in Thunderbird, simply add a few
filters so these MI5 msgs won't be seen. The filters I added are:

    action="Mark read"
    action="Ignore thread"
    condition="OR (subject,contains,CMSG Cancel) OR (subject,contains,M.I)
    OR (subject,contains,M,I) OR (subject,contains,M-I) OR
    (subject,contains,M`I) OR (subject,contains,M'I) OR (subject,contains,M I)"

The above was duplicated in all newsgroup subscribed to by adding it to
every newsgroup .dat file. (FYI, "CMSG Cancel" has been seen in a few
newsgroups where someone goes through and cancels the sporges, but then
evidently we see the cancelled msg instead.)

Put these in a few days ago and haven't seen a single MI5 sporge since.
Can hardly wait until the writer comes up with a few more subject changes!

The owner is in Greenland on business and doesn't know we're throwing a
party while he's away. Very hush-hush, say no more, know what I mean?

You could put this filter in the News folder and it would work for all
newsgroups to which you are subscribed. I have that one, and 163.com,
126.com and a few others in the News folder instead of adding them to
    each and every group.

I started filtering Google and now Usenet looks good as new. The
Chinese crime gangs that spam here non-stop here are using Google. I
used to send in spam complaints for every single one of them.
Unfortunately, Chinanet is a corrupt network and Google admits that they
    don't read or .

    Block Google and be happy.

Well this guy obviously doesn't. Of all the various MI5 posts that my
attempts at filtering didn't remove, in every group I subscribe to, there
has not been a single follow-up, not even a 'POQ' or 'drop dead' reply. It
seems people are learning. The guy who obviously spent quite some time
arranging the scripts to send this garbage must now be wondering if it is
worth doing in future - we hope so, anyway.

Some people with arrested moral, and ethical, development take the
ability to remain anonymous as a license to do things he normally would
not do. Cases of arrested mental development also take that as a
challenge to do as much harm to as many as possible.
