There's no straight forward answer to this question.

It depends on what's important to your employer or prospective
employer. Both certifications have benefits for different scenarios.

The A+ certification crosses to different operating systems and
    includes hands-on troubleshooting of hardware.
For example, I know a guy working in a public school system IT
department. There are many different operating systems and the
computers are older requiring a lot of maintenance. They are looking
for an extra person with an A+ certification.

The MCDST certification is limited to Microsoft, especially XP and
    2000 Professional.
For example, local contractors that support military personnel
support only Windows 2000 and/or XP. They have a help desk that
provides support over the phone or elevates the problem to another
level. MCDST certification can help people land a job here, but A+
    isn't as valuable.

If you can do both, you'll be better prepared to land a job in the IT
field. If this isn't feasible, try to imagine what job you'd want to
    land.
