Where do I start?

    Hi,

Just a bit of background before I ask... I've written
software for the last 15 years, have used VB since day 1
after moving off UNIX platforms writing C, have used all
subsequent versions until 6.0 and in the last year or two,
have moved onto the .Net platform writing fairly large and
    complicated modular n-tier C#/SQL Server Apps fronted-ed
    by .Net CF and ASP.Net.

Unfortunately I have no certification whatsoever and feel
that this is needed to start my own software development
firm (my ultimate goal in the next year or two) as it will
provide a little more credibility in the industry. I have
potential customers but they are all asking for some kind
of proof of my skill set before they buy into a
    development contract.

This leads to the main reason for this email: I was
looking at the MCSD qualification. Can anyone give an
estimate of the total cost, timescale and effort involved
to be a certified MCSD specialising in C#, Windows Forms,
ASP.Net and SQL Server (bear in mind I have extensive
    experience in all of these)?

Unfortunately, it will have to be funded out of my own
pocket as my company will not pay for it (in fear of me
leaving them or asking for a pay rise!) :-(

I'm UK based if that makes any difference.

    Thanks in advance

If I were you I would first study to take the
ceriftication exam of either windows or web development
depending on which you have the most experience. I would
first buy the study guides recommended to the post
directly above you and then take one exam. Most out of
pocket cost if you fail, $250.00 Pass or fail, once you
do this you will have a much better understanding of the
exams and what is expected, then you can make a more
informed decision before spending $5000 for a classs.
