What files contain specific user data?

Sometimes my computer comes up saying it can't find my profile or something, and
comes up as if it's all new... like 3 years ago! and nothing works...

I fixed it by using restore - but it took a few tries... and I had to make
    another user...

Anyone know which files I can backup in case my user profile goes away forever?

    It's XP home SP2.

I guess its under my name, in C:Documents and Settings/mona - but I can't look
or copy them now because they are in use... can I get them if I go in as another
    user?

    Anything else to do?

    Any tips appreciated!
