temp files are typically temporary files, and as such can be deleted when
    you choose to do so.

Temp files are created and used by applications to store temporary data to
    the drive. Delete them.

You get temp files on WebTV?

Temp files are usually the result of lazy programming. They are files
needed briefly during a process such as installing a program and could have
been removed by the process when it finishes but are left around rather than
    bother with such mundane code.

    Remove them without risk.

Temp files are files that end with the suffix .tmp

You may also see Temp folders...where files needed by a program may be
stored temporarily. You can delete these files whenever you want...as
long as yer not immediately rebooting because of a program
    installation or upgrade.

Any temp files that shouldn't be deleted won't LET you delete them.
You'll simply get an error message.

    That's not a temp file. That's a .vxd file.
