Online games are a license to print cash. And not just for game developers
like Blizzard Software ("World of Warcraft") and Linden Labs ("Second
    Life").

For certain resourceful players, the transformation of massive multiplayer
games from a source of entertainment to a virtual economy has also meant
lucrative opportunities for hacking. By exploiting bugs in gaming software,
some have literally minted their own digital currency, illicitly earning
hundreds of thousands of real dollars.

The potential for exploits in gaming software is drawing attention beyond
the gaming community: Gary McGraw, a security consultant with software
company Cigital and the author of a series of software security books
stretching back to 1999, recently co-authored Exploiting Online Games.

McGraw spoke with Forbes.com about common hacks in massive multiplayer
games, how those exploits apply to the future of software in general, and
the use of teleportation for fun and profit.
