If you are asking, then you already know the answer. Well spotted. :)

Is this webmail notice advising of maintenance and asking for account and
    password details just spam?

It looks like spam, but I thought I had better check.

    Thank you

Why would you hand over your username and password given that they're supposed to be private only
    to yourself?

It was the password bit that made me suspicious. otherwise it looks genuine.

    I'll just delete it.

    Thank you.

Makes a change from all these banks wanting my details.
And the chaps offering me millions of dollars.

    No probs Geopelia.)

The general rule of thumb is: never ever ever give your password to anybody else for any purpose, no
matter who is asking for it - if they're asking via email it may not be whom you think it is.

It does, but as you suggest, it's the same basic idea. :)
If in doubt, delete is a good principle.
