WD Diag Tools Dimdows-Only

  1. So Western Digital tests its drives, and makes diagnostic tools available,
    for Windows only

Frankly, I don’t see this as a big deal. I never use disk diagnostic tools,
and I don’t bother with SMART. I recall those two big studies of drive
failures from a few years ago, which found that SMART only detected about
30% of incipient failures anyway. So as far as I’m concerned that’s a waste
    of time.

What I DO do is arrange proper backup regimes. RAID is helpful for
minimizing downtime in the event of a failure, but on its own is NOT a
backup regime. And I do scans with the badblocks utility every couple of
months, in case a drive starts getting I/O errors without actually crashing.

Does it work on freeDOS ?
I know I have seen disk tools for one of the major brands running on a
    freeDOS boot disk.
