Ways to secretly start programs...?

Discussion in 'Computer Security' started by Thore Schmechtig, Oct 12, 2003.

  1. Greetings,

short and simple: Can anyone point me to a current list of ways to make
malware start without the user taking notice? I know, of course, about
the autoexec.bat and the various .ini-files, and about the reg-entries
run, runonce et cetera, and about the open command-entries. Yesterday,
however, I helped a friend to kill a trojan on his PC and found it in
    the reg-entry HKLM\Software\M$\WinNT\CurrVer\WinLogon, next to
userinit.exe. Until now I never heard about that method, so I have to
ask myself what else I might have overlooked...

    ....any tips? :)
