Ah, yes, "Bible Thumpers"--the one group *everyone* is obliged to disparage
or ridicule and the last frontier for government-sponsored discrimination.
Trouble is, the Thumpers never cause any problems except in the limited
minds of their detractors. But let's be fair: consider four categories of
"bible-thumping-esque" posts seen on this newsgroup:

    1) posts from people who attempt "spread the Gospel" of Jesus
    2) posts from people who venerate the Prophet Mohammed
    3) posts from people espousing the virtues of the Jewish faith
    4) posts from Buddhists promoting the value of the eight-fold path

Now add up the numbers of ALL such posts and call the result "Religion".

Next, add up the numbers of posts extolling us to drink various bodily
fluids or to perform other bizarre sexual/elimination activities along with
the number of posts promoting anti-religious beliefs and call the result of
this tabulation "Garbage". Finally, compute the fraction
    "Religion/Garbage".

Wow. The answer is close to zero. What a surprise. The truth is that most
religious people post messages only in reaction to being deliberately
provoked--religious people rarely initiate religious activity on
non-religion-oriented usenet groups. Is that a surprise? Consider the
amount of email spam one receives promoting Viagra compared to the amout of
received religious spam and your surpise will be elucidated.

My advice to you, Steve, is to stop being an anti-religious bigot and
instead take comfort in the knowledge that you are nothing more than a
soulless meat-machine whose brief existence on our non-descript ball of dust
is completely without import or meaning, except perhaps to those two other
soul-bereft mammals who spawned you as a result of their responding to urges
they were, by nature, unable to control.

    What?! and censor free speech?
This has been a newsgroup problem of late, and though a bit whimsical in my
word choice, it carries the appropriate message of warning

    > When you live next to the graveyard, you can't cry at every funeral.
