Very slow video with Firebird

I try out every version of Firebird. I would switch from Opera because
there are several pages I need that work with Firebird but not Opera, even
though I like the features of Opera better. (I tried to add mouse gestures
to Firebird, but it didn't work).

Except that Firebird can take up to a minute to go from minimized to
displaying on my screen at work. It is incredibly slow to display, and it
always has been. It's not so slow at home, but I want to use the same
browser both places - it is too much work synchronizing book marks of
    different browsers.

My work computer has Windows 2K and a Rage 128 Pro video card. I don't have
    administrator privilege.

I also like the fact that I can get to the Opera news server from work - the
Netscape news server apparently is secured and needs special settings.
