Hi all When firing up Microsoft Word my Firewall (Sygate) warns me that
Word needs to connect to "Verisign" I first refused and Word took forever
to start. I then allowed it once and now Word is OK. Why does it want to
connect to Verisign? This also happened a couple of times when I right
clicked on a file. A nice simple answer for a simple person would be very
    much appreciated ;-).
    Regards,
    Roy.

I can not be very exact without details about this connection (destination
port), but I presume this happens because there are some signed macros.
These macros carry certificates with them which have to be checked against
their certifier and their specified revocation list. The former is to be
sure that the certificate is valid, while the latter checks that it hasn't
been revoked (made invalid) by its issuer.

Both is done by Word to make sure you don't run any macros not or no longer
certified which could be a security problem.

Such certified macros often come with software, which integrates itself into
MS-Office (like Adobe Acrobat, not the Reader!).

    Hope, this helps :)
But remember: I've only guessed that.

    Greetings,
    Felix
