Using an Adapter with the 10D?

I'm considering getting a Canon 10D, in part because I already have some
decent lenses from my Canon EOS. However, the widest lens I have only goes
down to 28mm, giving me an effective focal length of approximately 45mm,
which is nowhere near wide enough for what I do. Budget is a serious
concern -- I've found a Tamron 19-35mm for only $200, but that still only
gets me down to 30mm, and the "tele" position results in a
wider-than-preferrable 48mm. I was wondering -- has anyone ever tried an
inexpensive wide-angle adapter with this camera? I'm sure I can find
something for under $100 that would screw onto my current lens. Will the
quality be horrible? Perhaps I should phrase that, "Will the quality be
noticeably less than the cheapie Tamron?"

Any suggestions would be welcome, including pointers to any other lenses
that will give me decent WA coverage for under $400.

    Thanks.
