My friend has a win98SE pc currently without internet connection. He
dropped his ISP because his PC is so infectred with spyware and malware it
won't run. I'm going to install a DUN VPN connection. I'd like to burn spy
sweeper, spy bot and ad aware and their updates to a cd, then
run these programs before making the DUN connection. Can I burn the updates
to a cd then install from the cd? Dial Up Networking connection is so slow
    I don't what to d/l anytthing.

    Thanks,

    Mike

The updates will be burned onto the cd or how do you suggest I update the

For Spybot Search & Destroy, this page has the downloadable update:
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

For Ad-Aware, the updates are downloadable from here:
    http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Spy Sweeper's web site seems to be down, but maybe you'll be able to connect
to it later and see about any similar downloadable updates.

I used to carry a 100meg parallel zip drive. Came in its own case and
all. USB is so much nicer tho.

Same concept though - take my 'toolbox' with me. My boss had a new toy this
week (actually two of them) - Memorex USB memory with 2G each! Way cool, but
    outa my budget ;o)

What I can't figure out is how to install the updated spyware databases if I
don't have a "net connection. I'll d/l whatever updated databases I can and
burn them on the cd. I want to scan for spyware/malware using udpated
databases then connect to the net. I hope I'm stating the problem clearly.

The spy detection programs are just about useless unless updated spyware
    databases
are installed in the programs. The problem is how do I get the updated
    databases into the
spyware detection programs w/o a 'net connection.

What's in your toolbox? Your spyware detection programs updated with most

Damn, Mike, will you THINK for a bloody minute? You go to the websites I
listed, you download the UPDATES onto your freakin' computer, you burn them
to a freakin' CD, you take that freakin' disc WITH THE UPDATES on it to your
friends house, and you update the software on his freakin' computer!!!

What is so stinking difficult about this? Geez...does someone need to come
    hold your hand?
