Unix recovery story

  1. How to recover from an accidental deletion of much of your OS, from 1986:
    <http://lug.wsu.edu/node/414>.

    On Linux systems, at least (not sure about modern BSDs), the home directory
    for root is "/root", no longer "/", so this situation is less likely to
    occur.

    Me? My first instinct would be to reach for a live CD to reboot from. But
    they didn't have them in those days...
