I'm baffled. Lately having downloaded a range of programs via Windows when I
try to open them I'm confronted with a Microsoft panel of installed programs
and invited to pick one to open each program. It highlights one, but neither
this nor any other program in the list succeeds in opening it. Instead, I'm
told that (a) no suitable graphics importer could be found, or (b) that the
particular program files could not be read, being incompatable. I can't
think of having done anything to bring this about. How do I deal with it ?
    Thanks. JOH.

You could have a virus or other malware on your machine. I've seen
malware that messes with explorer in a similar way to this.
