Now before I here use windows update I have a few win98 machines kicking
around and only a 56k modem to the world, you used to be able to down
load the files put em on disk or network some where and patch in your
own pleasure off line. all I seem to get is web downloders and all links
head back to windows update. even though the links seem to say for IT
admin types have they dropped this service and I am too late? or just
bad management of a large and ponder sum site?

I think that Google (not goolgle) relies on what you type, and from
your typing and spelling, I am not surprised you couldn't find it.
Unfortunately Google only tries to match what you enter, it makes no
real cool guesses as to what you actually meant to type.

The link Misfit posted was the first one listed on Google when I
    searched (not "surched").

    Better luck next time ;^)

Just how recent are any of these updates?

I looked at MS Technet Archive, it has the same sort of stuff, but it's
    pretty old.

The newest file on this site looks to be a couple of years old.

"Critical security updates for these platforms are available, are
provided as part of this security bulletin, and can be downloaded only
from the Windows Update Web site."

In other words you must use Windows Update.

Think about upgrading to XP at the earliest possible opportunity.

yeah it does... it says "did you mean blah blah blah" if you type
    something wrong... well mine does.

I ususally do stupid things like too many letters, almost like I have
    the jitters...

heh, see the word "ususally" that should have been "usually"

Speaking of wich I found the non SP1 or SP2 version of XPpro very
unstable till about 1/2 of the pacthes applyed even the cdrom was being
anoying... the Slackware 10.1 was less trobles in retrospect not
counting the buggy nvidia driver's all sorted.
