troubleshooting DSL

I'm trying to connect a Zoom DSL modem to 7200 router.
Debugging from 7200 shows that when the Zoom tries to connect, it
succeeds. It's link lights show connected. Surfing is good, and
    consistant.
But,while connected, and while surfing, more debugging shows line
protocol going up and down all the time on the "virtual-access"
    interface

Does this mean that the line protocol for the virtual interface (up or
down) has nothing to do with whether the connection is up ?

Any suggestions or good links for troubleshooting DSL ?
