earlier today when i was using the tracker ball to navigate at times
the pointer wanted to move over to the right of screen, this got so
bad that if i touched the tracker ball the pointer would disappear
over to the right of screen/desktop and no action from moving the ball
would make it move to the left side or back to centre.

i uninstalled the logitech software and fitted a normal mouse this
    works fine.

i tried reinstalling the logitech software but again this did not
    solve the problem.

can this problem be fixed or is the tracker ball kapoot?

or is the port where the tracker ball plugs into at fault?

yes i did try cleaning but these sym[ptoms aren't the sort i normally
    associate with cleaning.

currently i am running a normal mouse plugged into <com 1> port

the tracker ball runs from the <ps 2> port.

    tia

it's most likely a sensor problem inside the trackball mechanism. Try
disassembling the trackball (if you didn't do that before) and ensure the
photosensors are clean. Otherwise, buy a new one.
