TraceRt

Discussion in 'Computer Support' started by Steve Freides, Jul 1, 2004.

  1. Could someone explain to me why I can tracert to www.novell.com in 15
hops but I time out on the 15th hop when I try to tracert to the IP that
www.novell.com seems to be using according to how it gets DNS resolved
    on my computer, 130.57.4.27?

    TIA.

It's ICMP so what if it doesn't respond / has packets dropped?

    Check fwd/rev nslookups with debug.

Don't resolve addreses during the trace.

Run a packet capture application, look for the differences.

Strange trace, NJ to Chicago to Denver , fairly normal then odd, Salt
Lake back to NJ before getting to novell..
