Toshiba laptop giving problems

    Hi all,

I have a Toshiba Satellite 2595CDS. It does not power up. However,
it flashed a sequence of amber-colored lights from the A/C power LED.
The sequence is as follows (dot = short flash, dash=long flash). The
Toshiba website has been utterly useless in definine the meanings of
    this flashing LED sequence:

    dot,dash,dot,dot,dash,dot,dot,dash <pauses then repeats>

Anyone have any ideas? I checked the A/C power adapter with a
voltmeter and the output registers normal (15v DC). However, the
battery I believe is shot. It does not hold any charge whatsoever. I
understand this is normal for a 3 to 4-year old battery, but I don't
want to buy a new $40 battery until I'm sure this will fix the
    problem.

    Thanks very much,
    Dan
