Thunderbird's mailnews.mark_message_read.delay.interval setting

    In order to avoid marking a message as read by Thunderbird just because it has partially appeared
    in the message-pane below the message-list-pane I discovered (by a web search) the following setting:

    pref("mailnews.mark_message_read.delay", true);
    pref("mailnews.mark_message_read.delay.interval", 43200); // measured in seconds

    The setting above would presumably allow 12 hours to go by before a previewed-only message would be
    marked it as read.

    Is there a more straight-forward way to just turn off marking as read until the message is viewed
    in its own window?

    Tools>Options>Advanced - uncheck the box next to mark messages read
    after _____ seconds. Then it will not mark the messages read until you
    actually open it.
