I have tried Thunderbird (Version 0.9)out from a cold start twice now, and
it is not a bird brain when it comes to learning about spam.

After about 3 days of training it has learnt what is spam and marks the
messages as such. There is the odd one which slips thru but a quick mark
this as spam and it is spam for evermore.

It did this right out of the box.

The irony is that I never used to like the layout, look of Nestscapes
mailer, which Thunderbird is out of, to use the horse racing way of
saying things. However, I have grown to like it and the way it hunts spam
there is no need to have it on your monitor, only only your plate. Or in
    the Monthy Python sketch.
