When you manually mark an email as junk, the selected message is
changed. What's more, if nothing is selected, something is.

Could you elaborate on that a little?
When you mark a message as Junk, TB puts up the banner "Thunderbird
    thinks this message is Junk"
    which is quite normal

I simply dont understand what you mean by if nothing is selected
    something is.

Every morning there are about 20 spams which aren't recognized by TBird
as junk. I have it set to automatically move mail marked as junk to the
    junk folder.

When the first junk message is marked (with nothing selected), the
second message becomes selected. If the first non-junk message is
selected (for example the 21st message), when an email above is marked
as junk, the selection switches to the next non-junk message (which was
the 22nd message, but is now the 21st).

What action do you have set in
    Tools-->Junk Mail Controls
X When I manually mark messages as Junk

By marking those messages that JMC 'misses', you are teaching it to
    recognize the spam

Okay, while that answers the question I posed, with your snipping I have
lost track of why I even asked that question!
Remember, the question is familiar to you, it is your question after
all, but it isnt to me. I dont have the time to go back and re-read
entire threads everytime I come to the groups, and simply put I dont
remember what occassioned me to ask that question, something about Junk
    Mail is all I recall.

Maybe you would wish to refresh my memory
