Telstra / Paradise Broadband Issues (Questions)

    I can never get any sense out of this help desk so I was wondering:

    - Is anyone else having issues with International browsing or
    connections?
    - Is anyone else having issues with DNS resolution?
    - Is anyone else having issues with email just "vanishing", still
    being able to connect to the POP3 server and check for mail, but no
    mail, then at some point it all flooding through.
    - Can anyone recommend, in the Wellington suburbs area, a better
    provider?
    - Does anyone have any inside goss on why the service has detiorated
    so badly in the last few weeks again?

    I did a couple of nights ago - there appeared to be no connectivity (or
    extremely slow connections) to web sites outside NZ, but locally hosted
    ones were OK. This went on for a few hours (between about 10 p.m. and 1
    a.m.) but was OK again in the morning.

    (I'm on a TelstraClear cable connection, through clear.net.)

    At the same time, my friends on ADSL noticed no problems but my friends
    on Cable also had problems.

    Apart from that one occasion, I haven't seen any problems in the last
    couple of weeks.

    Fine here, but I'm using Clear's DNS servers rather than Paradise's.

    I'm not using my Clear e-mail account so I wouldn't have noticed any
    access problems to TelstraClear mail servers.

    Are you on TelstraClear cable and/or phone line, or do you just have
    Paradise ADSL on a Telecom phone line?

    If you have a TelstraClear phone line then you can't switch to another
    provider - you can only choose between paradise.net.nz and clear.net.nz.

    If you have a Telecom phone line then you can pick any ISP who offers
    ADSL connections (including Telstra's ones, but they might insist on
    installing Cable instead if your street has aleady been wired).

    I'll continue to recommend Actrix as an excellent ISP for ADSL, even
    though I've now switched to TelstraClear (simply because it worked out
    cheaper, faster and higher volume on cable, and we wanted digital TV,
    for which they insist on connecting their phone line as well.)

    Thanks for posting that .. I can answer yes to all of those, and yes I
    am with Clear.

    I changed recently from Ihug, and wish that I hadn't. My internet
    experience has been totally abismal since.


    What on earth is going on with these guys ?
