Tabletop lighting on the cheap?

Purchased a couple of 10-dollar rechargeable (12v) flashlights at the
treasure/trash store. Would like to use them to illuminate objects to
photograph within a homemade light tent. Is there anyway to modify the
spotlight beam and disperse it...perhaps aiming through an
intermediary "lens" created from crushed cellophane. Got any better
    ideas?
