system/config error

Discussion in 'NZ Computing' started by Man in Yellow Hat, Oct 31, 2004.

  1. Hi

I have a computer with WinXP SP2 installed. But now it won't boot due to
a system/config corruption or missing file(?). Changed the BIOS to boot
from CD-ROM and put in the WinXP setup CD-Rom. Booted from CD and
pressed r to recover. Then got quite a few options most of which I did
not understand and none which appeared would help.

Is there anything I can do (which is fairly fool-proof...) or does this
sound like I had better take it into the shop before I mess it up?

    TIA

Please post the exact error message or put that into a google search.
You can also press f8 right at startup and try "last known good" from the
    options list.
There are many things you can try but that is the easiest first step.
